Today the Senate Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee released its appropriations bill for the 2024 fiscal year.  The bill allocates $287 million for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program.
 
In response, SVP of Public Affairs at Jewish Federations of North America Elana Broitman said,
 
“Jewish Federations are disappointed by the Senate Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee’s proposed cut to the vital Nonprofit Security Grant Program, particularly as antisemitic attacks and other faith-motivated hate crimes are at an alarming high and last year’s $305 million level only met 42% of the security needs across the country. That is certainly why the administration’s budget and the White House Antisemitism Strategy proposed $360 million for the NSGP. We are grateful that the House has included an increase to $315 million in its appropriation bill, and we urge Congress to pass a funding level atleast at this level for this program that is critical to the safety of our communities.”
 
The NSGP provides grants to nonprofits to help fund security measures such as inspection and screening systems, physical barriers, and development of emergency preparedness plans. 
 
Jewish Federations, which were instrumental in creating the NSGP in 2004, continue to prioritize communal security, most notably through our $130 million LiveSecure campaign, the largest communal security initiative in the history of the North American Jewish community.
