Dignity Grows Community Pack

United Jewish Federation of Stamford, New Canaan, and Darien’s Dignity Grows chapter, the Interfaith Council of Southwestern Connecticut, and local houses of worship will host a community pack event on Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 pm at Serendipity Labs, 700 Canal Street, in Stamford.

Dignity Grows is a national organization, started at the Hartford Federation, dedicated to alleviating period-poverty by providing monthly totes filled with hygiene products for women in need.  UJF’s Dignity Grows chapter began several years ago under the leadership of Nancy Fahey, Terry Bernard, Tara Shapiro and Lisa Popper.

At the outset, grants allowed the group to pack 100 totes per month to be distributed alternatively to Inspirica, New Covenant Center and Person to Person.  But the need was so great that now, thanks to additional grant money, UJF’s Dignity Grows chapter provides 400 bags per month.

Join community members in packing bags as well as socializing over wine, cheese and light refreshments.

The packing event on April 18 provides a way for interfaith communities to help support this effort. Participants will help to assemble the bags, learn more about Dignity Grows, shmooze, sip wine and have snacks. To register, please go to ujf.org/pack. The cost of $18 helps to defray the cost of the products.

Hosting a pack at home is a great way to commemorate a birthday or special occasion while helping members of the community in need.  It’s easy to do. Contact Taly Farber at taly@ujf.org or Nancy Fahey fahey5@optonline.net, if interested.
