If you “Google” the word “Federation", you’ll find a very technical political definition. In truth, that definition - a political system made up of multiple entities joining forces under a common umbrella organization - could be revised slightly to describe our Federation. However, UJF is so much more than that. It’s a place where we express a central and critical fact: Being Jewish matters. It shapes who we are, how we live, the way we look at the world and how we seek to have a positive impact on it.
UJF is the collector of the concerns and needs surrounding Jewish Life. It’s the place where partners (or representatives) from throughout the community gather, planning the actions that ensure meaningful responses where help is needed.
Good will, community and accomplishment enrich each and every one of us. All Jews are responsible one for the other. So mitzvot matter, as well as reaching out when there is misfortune. When we see need in our community, or in struggling communities elsewhere, we act as one, and there is no place on earth that is beyond the reach of our help.
We keep abreast of the needs and emerging issues facing our People and keep the community informed. We can push the button to gather the members of our local Jewish community together on short notice when disasters happen.
What matters to us? Our heritage. So we work to preserve it. To share it with those who come after us.
Our future matters, so we are vigilant about doing the things necessary to make it bright, peaceful and promising. It matters that we pass down our Jewish faith to our children. So we give them the tools they need. We make sure they have books about being Jewish, that they can go to Jewish camps or participate in Israel trips.
And it’s vital that our elders can live lives of dignity and purpose, with a good quality of life. And that those who need a safety net to catch them when they fall are assisted with respect and love.
Does being Jewish matter to you? Do you want to be a part of an organization which strives to repair the world here at home, in Israel and around the world each and every day?
If so, support UJF. Your donations directly impact our local and global Jewish community.
